1868 US Shield Nickel.
The date is punched into the die much too far to the left !!
Never before seen this far left for this or any other date in the series !!!
The 18 of the date is entirely left of the ball !!!!
The center most vericle line of the third column, used to differentiate missing leaf varieties, goes through the center of the six !!!
OFF SCALE !!!
I have researched ebay listings and reference manuals. This is the only one I have ever seen with the date even close to this position.
I challenge anyone to find a match for this coin.
Needs to be added to the reference books !!
The final 68 of the date overlaps the ball !!
Looks to be a new variety discovery ! Extremely rare and possibly unique.

Coin has AG+ obverse detail and good reverse detail. There is very light porosity and a reverse "dig" above the C in CENT.
