Description

This is a model M-1904 US BOLO knife from WW1, with scabbard.  Stamped SA for Springfield Armory, also stamped with manufacture date 1914, used by Hospital Corps .
The United States military used “Bolo” style knives as an issue-type utility tool during WWI and into and through WWII. These originally started off in 1904 as full-size machetes, intended to be used by Hospital Corps troops who needed to hack through jungle to transport wounded, build field hospitals, and to cut poles for litters.
17 1/4" long with steel blade, S shaped brass crossguard, wood handle.
Wood handle missing the brass tip.  Blade has a few nicks, leather separation and damage at end of scabbard and hangar, as shown.
